Contacted by a Collection Agency, Bailiff, or Lawyer Regarding Telecom Bills
If you don't pay your telecom bill, your operator may employ a collection agency, a bailiff or a lawyer.
Collection agencies must be registered with the FPS Economy. If this is not the case, they may not contact consumers.
Bailiffs and lawyers are not required to register with the FPS Economy, but they must be registered with their respective professional body. You can check whether a bailiff is registered on the website of the National Chamber of Bailiffs of Belgium. You can find a lawyer on the website of the Flemish Bar Association or on the website of the French-speaking and German-speaking Bar Association.
Before the telecom operator may employ a collection agency, it must first send you a written reminder. You must be given 15 days to respond.
